It all started in 1982 after I passed my standard 5 end of year examination at that time I was staying with my
grandparents as my mother was working as a domestic worker in Pretoria. My grandparents and my mother then told me I can’t carry on with my education as they don’t have money and I really needed to continue with my education as I wanted to be a lawyer, I continued my studies none the less. I enrolled at Fidelitas Comprehensive School and I met friend who told me on weekends he goes to Columbine avenue, Mondeor to look for piece jobs like doing garden work then on Saturday I went with him there in 1983 and I was 16 years old. So every weekend I went there and got some jobs so I was able to pay for my education, to buy food at school and buy myself clothes, then one day a builder who was renovating a certain house in Mondeor offered me work to assist him that was the day my life changed for the better because the owner of the house noticed my hard work and he liked me so when renovations are complete he asked me if I’m interested to do his garden every Saturday and I agreed.
He owned Hillbank motors so during school holidays I used to work as well at his showroom so I was making extra money and his neighbour asked me to do his garden as well on Sundays I agreed and that means Monday to Friday I’m attending school and Saturday and Sunday I’m working it was tiring but I was able to take care of my schooling and myself, my boss for Sunday work later resigned from his company and started his own company High climber services a scaffolding company so I eventually passed my matric examination in 1988 and next year I enrolled with University of South Africa (UNISA) however I dropped out during my first year.
He employed me in 1990 in his company and we worked also on weekends so I was forced to quit my weekend jobs though it was extremely difficult to quit my Saturday job as he played a very important role in my life as my own father passed on while I was very young, at High Climber Services I quickly learned everything in regards to scaffolding and within my two years at the company I supervised a big project at Richards Bay KwaZulu Natal for two years and immediately on successful completion of the project I did the same for three months at a project at Mauritius.
I then became my boss’s right hand man until the company was closed in 2013 that’s when I decided to start my own scaffolding company with my wife called G AND N TRADING ENTERPRISE and he sold me all his scaffolding equipment bear in mind our verbal agreement was to pay him every month what I can afford to pay him WE DIDN’T SIGN ANY DOCUMENT BECAUSE OF THE LEVEL OF TRUST HE HAD, he didn’t have his own kids hence he called me his son my family and him and his wife we used to go out together for lunch and when they decided to sell their house they approached me and the house I used to be a gardener today is my house and I’m running a very successful scaffolding company because I learned from the best.
